Taste of Buddhism with Scott Snibbe: “Spiritual Democracy”

Sunday, September 15 , 10:30 am 12:00 pm

In everyday life we’re wracked by fierce feelings of attachment to our loved ones, and dislike towards those that give us trouble. We often get angriest at the villains we see around us in politics and corporations; or at perpetrators of horrible tragedies like terrorist attacks and mass shootings.

Buddhism, democracy, and social justice tell us that all people deserve the same rights and freedoms: we’re all equal, we all deserve happiness. But in everyday life we don’t always feel that way. This lecture and meditation will explore the Buddhist concept of equanimity, applied to our everyday relationships and the daily news to teach us a technique for developing healthy feelings of connection to others, even those we most despise.
